Fierce Harem

Airport bound. Like most people, I’m always searching for that balance between comfortable lounge-wear and jet-setter chic. As I depart on to my next adventure in San Francisco I turned to my harem pants. Though everyone seems to have an opinion about the baggy pant style (even I had my fair share of eye-rolling), the harem style has grown on me. Besides being ridiculously comfortable, these bad boys are the ticket to pull off an effortless look.

Sweatshirts and I have never really gotten along. They’re so comfortable to wear, but I always feel like a giant blob whenever I throw one on. Perhaps it’s my inner Arizonan acting completely dumbfounded that they could actually be fashionable! But I found experimenting with proportions and shape was the key to offsetting the boxy look of such a big shirt.

Spring is in the air! Though the weather can’t seem to make up its mind over here, we’re starting to see warmer days. After months heavy of coats and layers it felt nice to throw on a breezy maxi outfit for a change . It made for a perfect day of lounging and twirling in the park with friends.

Meet Kirby, my go-to fashion buff here over the pond. Her outfits are always carefully crafted to elicit her carefree demeanour in most stylish way. I finally remembered my camera on Saturday so I could capture yet another one of her breezy looks. On a side note, this lady has the nicest ankles you’ve ever seen. They’ll blow your mind.

DSC07692 - Version 2Meet Jami; the cutest, spunkiest bundle of sunshine to ever live. Although she’s normally behind the camera, today she stepped in front for a change (check out her blog here). She’s  one of those lucky people who can pull of any look and make a sweatshirt and denim jacket combo look like a million bucks. Today’s ensemble was no exception, and I couldn’t pass up the chance to feature such a beautiful damask piece.

Tartan will always have a special place in my heart. When I found these marvellous pants at Top Shop my first day here,  I knew it was meant to be. They’re an easy way to make any outfit feel “oh so London”. In this case, they put a brit twist to Sandy’s dangerous Greece look.

Though trends can be hard to follow, one English staple look will always be an oversized top. Whether it’s a wool coat or a vintage button down, an oversized top is an effortless way to feel put together and bold. Most people shy away from oversized tops for fear of looking “boxy” or shapeless. But paired with slick tights, it’s an easy way to balance the look by bringing shape back into the ensemble.
If you’re in the market for a smock, check out your local thrift store. I got mine in town for just $7 and it’s one of the comfiest pieces I own.
