The Smock

Vintage Shirt, H&M Necklace, ASOS Shoes, Primark Tights

Though trends can be hard to follow, one English staple look will always be an oversized top. Whether it’s a wool coat or a vintage button down, an oversized top is an effortless way to feel put together and bold. Most people shy away from oversized tops for fear of looking “boxy” or shapeless. But paired with slick tights, it’s an easy way to balance the look by bringing shape back into the ensemble.
If you’re in the market for a smock, check out your local thrift store. I got mine in town for just $7 and it’s one of the comfiest pieces I own.

Day 41

Day 41: I went to the architecture exhibit at the Royal Academy of the Arts. Although I’ve never been much of an architecture person, this visit really opened my eyes to the possibilities of such an art form. My favorite piece was Diebedo Fracis Kere. The exhibit featured a white tunnel for visitors to thread bright straws through. The straws acted as an ever-changing cloak of color while creating a sense of community in the room.

Day 36

Day 36: This Saturday I headed to Stonehenge and Bath for little day trip with my program. But about 30 seconds after we arrived at Stonehenge, hail started falling so hard that we all ran back to the bus! We headed over to Bath to explore the extravagant ancient roman baths. Although no one uses the pools for bathing anymore, the water is still said to contain mystic healing powers. We got to try some from the fountain but all I felt was a funky taste in my mouth!

Once I got home I went to an “America” themed party at Lauren’s flat! Complete with country music, Budweiser and lots of denim, it was fun seeing what Brits actually think we do across the pond.

Day 35

Day 35: This morning class was cancelled so I ventured for a nice cafe to camp out in for the day. By sunset I caught a great run on the Thames River banks. It’s my favorite place to be at this time of night because the pathways and stores look so festive and cheerful lit up. My roommate Jossie and I ended the day cooking some good ol’ fashioned fajitas! Though we may be across the pond, they weren’t half bad!

Day 34

Day 34: Sorry I’ve been slacking so much these past few days! Yesterday, my Art & Society class paid a visit to Tate Britain, a modern art museum in downtown London. Rooms are organized by decade so you can see how art progresses from 1500’s to present day. I found the exhibits absolutely fascinating and loved analyzing and interpreting the works with my peers.

Day 33

Day 33: For the next two weeks, subway workers are going on strike and and shutting down the tube! For a girl who relies on the train 3+ times a day, I’ve found my travels very limited! Hopefully the city will get it figured out soon, I have a feeling these hour-long walks to class are going to get old fast.
